Carlin Friar

Carlin Friar is a leader in so many different ways. Somer and I enjoyed sitting down with him and learning about everything from School Board’s responsibilities to how you can be very involved with your local fire department, police force, and so much more. As you listen to this episode, please remember to get out and vote in your local School Board and City elections!

Financial Institution Experience – San Antonio/Boerne, Texas

In 1986, my banking career began with the ability to intern in a number of operations-related departments including teller, new accounts representative, bookkeeping, and accounting. Over time, I managed Special Assets (foreclosures and repossessions) as well as directed a data processing center. I have served as a Bank Cashier, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer. Following a merger into Sterling Bank in 2003, my career path changed, and I began development of credit skills, and commercial lending. I was also afforded the opportunity to begin management development and team building with multi-branch responsibilities, at one time providing oversight of the retail operations of 13 offices in San Antonio.

Since that time, I have served as Branch President, CFO, Commercial Lender, Chief Operating Officer, and Bank President/Director. As an independent consultant, I worked with an investment group in 2017 to open the newest bank in Texas since 2009. I am currently employed as the Boerne President of The Bank and Trust, ssb, which is a community bank based out of Del Rio, Texas.

Following the sale of the hospital to Methodist in April of 2023, I transitioned to a Board Member of Create Healthy, the remaining entity that serves as a charitable foundation promoting healthy initiatives in Gillespie and the surrounding counties. In June of 2021, I was appointed by the Mayor of Boerne to serve as Chairman of the Ethic Review Commission for the City of Boerne.
